About the BonaventureChapter History: The group started in March, 1986 as the Shuttle North Star, a long distance meeting group of the USS Alaric, NCC-503, then located in Burnsville, NC. The North Star held regular meetings at the University of North Carolina- Greensboro and other locations in the Greensboro/High-Point/Winston-Salem area and was very active in the local Science Fiction Fan Community. After two years, the North Star was commissioned as a full Chapter of Starfleet, launching as the Battleship USS Bonaventure, NCC-102 at the High Point Rd Shoney's in Greensboro, NC in June, 1988. The chapter evolved into a large and vital group with a roster of 200 members in various areas of the country and spawned several new chapters within Starfleet's Region One. In 1992, the Bonaventure was refitted to the Ambassador Class Bonaventure, NCC-102-A, and, in 2008 as an Emissary Class Space Control Vessel, but it continues its active role in the North Carolina Science Fiction/Fantasy community and in the community at large by sponsoring Starfleet and SF Fan events like Landing Party One & Two, the Region One Conference at StellarCon 18 and the Phenomicon Conventions. Our community activities have involved projects for Urban Ministries, March of Dimes, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and The Battered Women's Shelter of Guilford County among others. Here are just a few things that we have going on on the Bonaventure: September Meeting & Cookout: Saturday, September 18th 2010 ***New Date*** Dana Bowman's House 1540 Miles Moffitt Rd., Asheboro(just 2 miles east of Asheboro off NC Hwy 42)1:30 to 8PM(We'll be meeting @ the Border's in Greensboro at High Point Rd. and Holden at 12:30 PM to carpool)We will also be screening 5 episodes of Star Trek from nearly every incarnation, including the animated series. Also, We will also be taking money for advanced tickets to the Escapism Film Festival in Durham at the Carolina Theater on 25 September. Since it's a cook-out, bring your appetites (and a side item or drinks to share, if you're inclined.)
